Fine jewellery should be enjoyed for years to come.
Precious metals, fine stones, crystals and beads are not indestructible so please follow these guidelines to ensure years of enjoyment:
- Avoid direct contact with perfumes, lotions, hair sprays and other chemicals by putting your jewellery on after you've applied these, especially if your item has a plated finish.
- Always remove jewellery before going to bed so that prongs don't hook on your hair or bedding.
- Avoid heat shock which can cause delicate stones to crack by avoiding very high or very low temperatures such as boiling water.
- Remove jewellery before bathing, showering or swimming to prevent them from slipping off unnoticed when your skin is wet.
- Do not wear jewellery when you're busy with physical activities such as gym, gardening etc as your fine jewellery might get bent or damaged.
- Occasionally wash jewellery with a mild warm water and dish soap solution, using a soft toothbrush to gently brush away caked on dirt and oils.
- Wipe clean and polish with a soft jewellery polishing cloth such as this one when you need to restore lustre.
- Store jewellery away in a safe and soft place, such as a jewellery box or pouch, when not wearing. Oxygen exposure can encourage tarnishing on some metals, even pure gold, over time.
- Do not store with hard materials such as diamonds, as these can scratch softer stones and metals when they're crowded in the same box of pouch.
