Frequently Asked Questions

Orders & Payment

Information about placing orders, payments, and checkout

Can I change my delivery address after placing my order?

Please contact us as soon as possible at help@jamesjewellery.co.za with your order number and the correct delivery address. We can update it if the order has not yet been dispatched. Once the parcel has been handed over to the courier, an address change may not be possible or may result in additional courier charges.

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

Please contact us as soon as possible at help@jamesjewellery.co.za if you need to change or cancel an order. If the order has not yet been dispatched, we’ll do our best to assist. Once an order has been handed over to the courier, we are no longer able to make changes or cancel it.

Can I combine two separate orders into one shipment?

Contact us as soon as possible with both order numbers. If neither order has been dispatched, we are able to combine them into one shipment.

Can I place an order as a gift for someone else?

Yes. Simply enter the recipient’s details as the delivery address when placing your order. You can also add available gift packaging or a handwritten card from our Gifting Collection if you’d like us to prepare the order as a gift.

Can I use a gift card together with a discount code or another payment method?

A gift card can be used toward your order and, if its balance does not cover the full amount, the remaining balance can be paid using another available payment method.

Do you offer payment plans or instalment options?

We offer Payflex as a third-party payment option at checkout. Payflex allows eligible customers to split their purchase into interest-free instalments, subject to Payflex’s own approval, terms and conditions.

James Jewellery does not provide or manage the payment plan directly.

Do you offer wholesale pricing or a wholesaler programme?

Yes. We have a wholesale programme for approved retailers and independent sales agents in South Africa. Wholesale stock is purchased upfront rather than supplied on consignment, and orders generally have a 1-week lead time depending on stock availability and volume. You can apply to become an approved wholesale partner here: https://jamesjewellery.co.za/pages/wholesale-programme.

My discount code isn’t working — what should I check?

Check that the code has been entered exactly as provided and that your order meets any minimum requirements attached to the promotion. Some discounts may also exclude certain products or other promotions. If the code should be valid but still isn’t working, contact us before completing your order and we’ll take a look.

You can choose from the delivery methods available at checkout, but we can’t guarantee a specific courier or delivery date. If you have a special delivery requirement, contact us before placing your order and we’ll let you know whether we can accommodate it.

Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?

We currently offer Pargo Pickup as an alternative to door-to-door delivery, allowing you to have your parcel delivered to an available Pargo Pickup Point nationwide. Available collection points and rates can be selected during checkout.

Do you deliver throughout South Africa?

Yes. We deliver throughout South Africa using our third-party courier partners, including RAM, The Courier Guy, Skynet, MTE Express and Pargo. The delivery options available for your address will be shown at checkout.

Do you deliver to P.O. boxes, farms, plots, or outlying areas?

Courier delivery availability depends on the destination and the services available in your area. P.O. boxes cannot be used for door-to-door courier deliveries, so please provide a physical delivery address. Enter your address at checkout to see the available services or contact us if you’re unsure.

Do you offer free shipping?

Do you offer international shipping?

Yes. We can offer international delivery using FedEx. International shipping charges are for the buyer’s account and are not included in our product prices. Any customs duties, import taxes or other charges imposed by your destination country are for your account. Shipping rates are determined at checkout based on the delivery address you provide.

How can I track my order?

We’ll send you tracking information once your order has been handed over to the courier. You can use the tracking details provided to follow the progress of your delivery.

How long does it take to process and dispatch my order?

We aim to pack and dispatch orders within 1–2 business days after payment has been received. Orders are dispatched from our studio in Polokwane, Limpopo. Made-to-order and customised jewellery may have different lead times, which will be indicated on the relevant product page.

How long will delivery take?

Delivery time depends on the shipping method you select and where you are located. Standard Door to Door typically takes 2–4 business days, Pargo Click & Collect typically takes 3–7 business days. Priority Door to Door typically takes 1-2 business days and your order is prioritised for packing before being shipped using The Courier Guy’s Express service. Delivery times are estimates and may vary depending on your location and courier capacity.

How much does shipping cost?

Standard Door to Door delivery costs R99 for orders below R800 and is free on orders of R800 or more. Priority Door to Door costs R150. Pargo Pickup rates are calculated according to the pickup point selected and are shown at checkout.

What happens if my parcel is delayed?

Delivery times are estimates provided by our courier partners, and delays can occasionally occur after a parcel has left us. If your order is taking longer than expected, check your tracking information first. If there appears to be a problem with the shipment, contact us at help@jamesjewellery.co.za and we’ll assist with following it up with the courier.

Can I exchange an item if I ordered the wrong size?

Yes. Eligible unused items can be exchanged for another size, colour or variant if you contact us at help@jamesjewellery.co.za within 7 days of receiving your order. The item must still be in its original condition and packaging. Kindly note that return shipping and the shipping cost for the replacement item are for the customer’s account.

Can I return my jewellery if I change my mind?

Yes, provided the item qualifies for our 7-day money-back guarantee. Contact us at help@jamesjewellery.co.za within 7 days of receiving your order, and make sure the item is unused and in its original condition and packaging. Earrings, piercing jewellery, engraved and custom-made items cannot be returned.

How do I start a return or exchange?

Email us at help@jamesjewellery.co.za within the applicable return period and the item you would like to return or exchange. We’ll guide you through the return process.

How do refunds work and how long do they take?

Once we receive your return, we’ll inspect it to make sure it meets our return requirements. Once approved, your refund will be processed. Original shipping fees are non-refundable. Refunds are processed as payment reversals on the original method of payment you used, the time it takes for the funds to appear in your account may depend on your bank or payment provider.

How many days do I have to request a return or exchange?

For a change of mind, incorrect size, colour or variant, contact us within 7 days of receiving your order. If you believe your item has a manufacturing fault, please contact us at help@jamesjewellery.co.za within 30 days of receiving it.

What condition must items be in to qualify for a return or exchange?

Returned items must be unused, unworn and in their original condition, with their original packaging and label. Unfortunately, items showing signs of wear or use do not qualify for a change-of-mind return.

What if my item arrives damaged, faulty, or incorrect?

Please contact us at help@jamesjewellery.co.za as soon as possible with details about the problem. If an item has a manufacturing fault, you can return it within 30 days of receiving your order for a replacement or refund. If a replacement is unavailable, store credit may be offered. We’ll cover the return shipping if the item is confirmed to be faulty.

What if my jewellery breaks shortly after purchase?

If you believe your jewellery has broken because of a manufacturing fault, contact us within 30 days of receiving your order. We’ll inspect the item and, if a manufacturing fault is confirmed, arrange a replacement or refund. Damage caused by wear, accidental damage, improper care or use under abnormal conditions is not considered a manufacturing fault.

Sizing & Fit

Guidance on sizing, fit, and how jewellery should be worn

Can rings be resized if it doesn’t fit?

Most rings from our standard collections are made from stainless steel or titanium which cannot be resized, so we recommend confirming your ring size before ordering.

Custom-made solid gold, platinum or sterling silver rings can often be resized within certain limits, depending on the design and amount of adjustment required. If you need a custom ring resized, contact us and we’ll let you know what’s possible for your specific piece.

If you ordered the wrong size from our standard collection, eligible unworn rings can be returned or exchanged under our 7-Day Money Back Guarantee.

How do I choose the right bracelet size?

Measure around your wrist where you normally wear a bracelet, then compare that measurement with the dimensions listed on the product page. Allow a little extra room depending on how you like your bracelets to fit: less for a close fit and more for a looser fit. For adjustable bracelets, check the product description for the available size range.

How do I choose the right necklace length?

Necklace length depends on where you want the necklace to sit and whether you plan to wear it alone or layered. Shorter chains generally sit closer to the base of the neck, while longer chains fall further down the chest. Check the chain length listed on the product page before ordering and compare it with a necklace you already own or use a piece of string or measuring tape to see where that length will sit on you.

How do I find my ring size?

We use US ring sizing. The easiest way to find your size is to use our online Ring Sizer. Simply calibrate the tool on your screen, then place an existing ring that fits you well over the guide to find its size.

For the most accurate measurement, you can also visit a local jeweller and ask them to professionally size your finger. We generally don’t recommend measuring your finger with string or paper, as even small measuring differences can result in the wrong ring size.

How should a ring fit?

A ring should feel secure without being uncomfortably tight. It should slide over your knuckle with a little resistance and sit comfortably at the base of your finger without pinching. A small amount of movement is normal, but the ring shouldn’t feel as though it could easily slip off your finger.

What if I’m between two ring sizes?

If you fall between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger size for a more comfortable fit. Bear in mind that wider bands can fit tighter than finer rings.

What if I’m buying a ring as a gift and don’t know the size?

If possible, borrow a ring they already wear on the same finger and use our online Ring Sizer to determine its size.

Materials

Information about materials, plating, durability, and wear resistance

How long does gold plating last?

There isn’t a fixed lifespan for gold plating. How long it lasts depends on the thickness and type of plating, how often the jewellery is worn, where it is worn and how it is cared for. Exposure to chlorine, salt water, chemicals, and friction can cause plating to wear more quickly. Removing plated jewellery when sleeping, swimming or doing work involving chemicals will help preserve the finish for longer.

Is your jewellery nickel-free?

We don’t use reaction-prone base metals such as brass or zinc in our main jewellery ranges, but some sterling silver alloys and components may contain trace amounts of other metals. If you have a known nickel allergy or severe metal sensitivity, contact us before ordering and we can help you check the materials of a particular piece.

Is your jewellery real gold or gold-plated?

We offer both. Many James Jewellery pieces are made from titanium, stainless steel or sterling silver with a real gold-plated finish, while our Solid Gold collection is made from solid gold and is not plated. Check the material information on the individual product page to see exactly what a piece is made from.

Is your jewellery suitable for sensitive skin?

Titanium and stainless steel are commonly used for hypoallergenic jewellery, and we avoid reaction-prone base metals such as brass and zinc in our main jewellery ranges. Sterling silver and solid gold are also generally well tolerated, although individual sensitivities vary. If you have a known metal allergy, check the material information on the product page before purchasing.

Is your jewellery waterproof?

Our titanium and stainless-steel jewellery is suitable for normal everyday exposure to water, including showering. However, plated jewellery should still be cared for properly: repeated exposure to chlorine, salt water, chemicals, soaps and other products can shorten the life of the plated finish. We recommend removing all jewellery pieces before swimming, using a jacuzzi, or prolonged exposure to chemicals and cleaning products as part of your jewellery care routine.

What is moissanite?

Moissanite is a gemstone known for its exceptional brilliance, durability and diamond-like appearance. The moissanite used in jewellery today is lab-created, giving it consistent quality without requiring mined stones. It is a very hard gemstone suitable for frequently worn jewellery, including engagement rings. Our made-to-order fine jewellery collection includes moissanite pieces set in sterling silver, solid gold or platinum.

What is the difference between stainless steel, titanium, sterling silver, and solid gold jewellery?

Stainless steel and titanium are hard, durable, tarnish-resistant metals well suited to frequently worn jewellery and highly resistant to corrosion. Sterling silver is a precious metal that can naturally tarnish over time but can be restored with polishing. Solid gold is a precious metal made from gold alloy throughout rather than a gold coating over another metal, so there is no plated gold layer to wear away.

Jewellery Care

Advice on cleaning, storage, and maintaining jewellery

Can I wear my jewellery in the shower or while swimming?

Our stainless steel and titanium jewellery stands up well to everyday exposure to water, so a shower isn’t a problem. However, we recommend limiting prolonged or frequent exposure to chlorinated pools, jacuzzies and sea water, particularly for gold-plated pieces, which can gradually affect the plated finish.

Can perfume, lotions, or cosmetics affect my jewellery?

Yes. Perfume, lotions, sunscreen, cosmetics and other products can cause build up on jewellery which leaves it dull. Apply these products first and allow them to dry before putting on your jewellery.

How can I prevent my jewellery from tarnishing or fading?

Keep your jewellery clean and dry, store it away from prolonged exposure to air and moisture, and limit contact with chemicals, perfume, other metals, chlorine and salt water. Plated jewellery will naturally experience some wear over time, but good care can significantly extend the life of its finish. Sterling silver may naturally tarnish and can be restored with appropriate cleaning and polishing.

How should I care for gold-plated jewellery?

Gold-plated jewellery needs care too because the gold is a surface layer over the base metal. Avoid abrasive polishing, harsh chemicals and prolonged exposure to chlorine or salt water. Remove it where practical when sleeping, swimming or doing activities involving soaps, lotions, soil or repeated friction. Clean it gently with a soft cloth and store it dry when not in use.

How should I care for stainless steel or titanium jewellery?

Stainless steel and titanium are durable, tarnish-resistant metals that require relatively little maintenance. Clean them with a soft cloth or, when needed, lukewarm water and mild soap, then dry thoroughly. If the piece is gold-plated, treat the plated surface gently and limit prolonged exposure to chlorine and salt water to help preserve the finish.

How should I care for sterling silver jewellery?

Sterling silver is a softer metal and can bend under pressure. It can naturally tarnish when exposed to air and certain chemicals. Store it somewhere clean and dry when you’re not wearing it, preferably in an anti-tarnish pouch or closed jewellery box. Light tarnishing can be removed with a suitable silver polishing cloth. Avoid aggressive polishing on silver pieces that have a plated finish.

How should I clean my jewellery?

For regular cleaning, gently wipe your jewellery with a jewellery cloth to restore shine. If it needs a deeper clean, use lukewarm water and a small amount of mild dish soap to remove oils and build up, then rinse and dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals and rough polishing materials, particularly on plated jewellery.

How should I store my jewellery when I’m not wearing it?

Store your jewellery somewhere clean and dry, ideally in the pouch or box it came in. Keeping pieces separate helps prevent scratching and tangled chains, while limiting exposure to air and moisture can also help reduce tarnishing. Make sure jewellery is completely dry before storing it.

Should I remove jewellery before exercising or sleeping?

We recommend removing delicate pieces before exercise or activities where they may be pulled, knocked or caught on equipment. Sweat itself is not a problem for our stainless steel and titanium jewellery, but repeated exposure to friction can shorten the life of plated finishes.
